© Liu Songkai doozyaccess art space recently commissioned us to renovate a warehouse Art Museum located in Longwu Road, Shanghai.
At the same time, during the construction process, we invited the artist group Martin Goya business to make the first show of doozyaccess art exhibition.
© Liu Songkai long facade © Liu Songkai’s project is the transformation of a 500 square meter industrial plant.
Like most plant buildings that pay attention to space efficiency, the buildings and structures of this former glass processing plant also follow this scale and rhythm matching with economic benefits.
Although this absolute order and rhythm also has a certain industrial beauty, in this project, we try to locally disturb this rhythm and make it fragment, unconnected, unnatural and weird.
Before transformation © Wang mangyuan: perspective path device under sunlight © In the whole project, Liu Songkai forcibly inserted three spatial components inconsistent with the language of the main building, so as to disturb the original regular building facade.
The language of the three components is also deliberately not unified, but linked with the huge exhibition hall (stage) and black curtain in the spatial narrative.
Long facade Perspective © Liu Songkai: perspective path device © Liu Songkai inserted three new space volume components 1: the pig mouth lens is similar to the old camera.
A lens protrudes from a curtain to connect the visitors with the behind the scenes space of the photography area, so as to complete a degas behind the scenes peeping.
Pig beak lens device © Recent photo of Liu Songkai’s pig beak lens device © Liu Songkai component 2: perspective path after volume quantization component 2, as an extension of the concept of lens 1, materializes and quantifies the perspective path of peeping, which is inserted into the South outer wall after stacking and distortion.
Thus, as a foreign language, it forcibly disrupts the wall Order Ruled by the existing window structure, and completes the bridging of the internal and external space of the warehouse.
Perspective path device local © Liu Songkai: perspective path device part © Liu Songkai: component 3: the off-axis pile finally came to the main gate of the building.
We abandoned the original entrance door opening, but retained its external form as the legacy language of the original building to resist the entrance stack device we designed.
The peeping opening is the entrance, a 300mm thick wall door forming the stacking device.
Through this low cave like entrance, the tall main space in the building is dramatically exposed to visitors.
Facade of main gate © Inside and outside of Liu Songkai Martin Goya Business Exhibition © Pan Yaonan Martin Goya business exhibition inside and outside © The huge space inside Weng Fanfan’s black curtain building is imagined as a performance theater according to the functional requirements, with front and back scenes.
The front of the stage has become an art strategy exhibition area and the back of the stage has become a professional photography office area.
Art installation of martingoya’s business © Wang mangyuan Martin Goya business wall graffiti © Wang mangyuan © In Liu Songkai’s original design, we designed a colorful black curtain.
Each black cloth with its unique texture, strength and color randomly forms the whole huge curtain with other black.
The semi exposed rotating steel stairs suggest a certain space composition behind the scenes, which needs to be imagined by visitors.
© Liu Songkai © Liu Songkai: transition to indoor volume © Liu Songkai, however, we gave up the idea of hanging the curtain after building the steel frame for hanging the curtain.
The arc formed by the steel frame has strongly implied the relationship between the front and back.
Because of the existence of this skeleton, the flexibility and temporary nature of space use have been stimulated, which is richer and deeper than simple curtain covering.
© Liu Songkai © Liu Songkai’s indoor shooting is after an art exhibition.
We deliberately record the traces of objects left in the space through photos, which is not only a reflection on “Daily” but also a resistance to too refinement.
Skeleton of black curtain © Liu Songkai © Liu Songkai © In the middle of Liu Songkai’s construction, the art group Martin Goya business carried out an experimental art practice inside the unfinished building.
The whole interior of the building was covered with graffiti as a three-dimensional canvas.
And a giant inflatable cat is stuffed into the inner giant space, showing a strong psychedelic Heterodimensional atmosphere.
Under the contrast of the cold and simplified volume of the outer wall, it is like two parallel universes.
When the art practice exhibition is over, white emulsion paint will cover all graffiti, and the whole interior of the building will return to the state of white box.
Thus, we turn the whole construction, graffiti to white paint covering process into a complete performance art practice.
