Hydraulic concrete structures have the characteristics of being large and thick.
Some structural designers only focus on structural calculations and do not pay enough attention to the structural design of concrete structures.
They do not fully understand the requirements of the concrete structure design specifications, resulting in unreasonable dimensions of the final concrete structure or unreasonable reinforcement in the construction drawings, which poses hidden dangers to engineering safety.
The article analyzes some provisions of the current industry standard “Design Specification for Hydraulic Concrete Structures” (SL191-2008) (hereinafter referred to as the “Specification”), introduces some common structural design problems of hydraulic concrete structures, points out the errors that hydraulic structure designers are prone to make in structural design, and points out the correct methods, in order to raise sufficient attention to structural design for hydraulic structure designers.
